Everything a programme needs sits on our side of the line.

A line drawn on a chart, a set of months, hulls, gas, instruments and people. Here is what each of those actually consists of, and which of them you would still own afterwards.

The parts

Five things get assembled, and only one of them is a boat.

The vessel is the visible part and the least interesting one. What decides whether a season goes well is the four things around it.

  1. A boundary An area of water with an edge, agreed in writing. Inside it we are accountable; outside it we are not, except where an adjacent Deep Strike is worth running because that water is about to become yours.
  2. A season The weeks your exposure actually occupies. Bloom season on one coast, the stratified months on another, the fortnight either side of a marine heatwave on a reef.
  3. Hulls and hull-hours Vessels held for that zone and that period, tiered to draught and transit distance rather than to ambition. The vessel page covers the hull itself.
  4. A treatment stage Gas plant, nanobubble generation, an oxidation stage where organic load calls for one, and delivery into the layer that lost its oxygen. Set out here, with the arguments still open in the literature marked as open.
  5. Instruments, and somebody outside reading them Telemetry, profiles and imagery, and standing access to all of it for local scientists who do not work for us. Controls and data.

The three technical pages

Written for whoever has to defend the decision internally.

Each of these answers a different reviewer. The naval architect and the harbourmaster want the hull. The chemist and the environment ministry want the treatment stage. The data people want to know who else holds the record.

The boundary

A zone is drawn against bathymetry, not against a budget.

Where the line goes is an engineering question first. Shallow ground dictates which hull can work it; distance from a berth dictates how much of a day is spent transiting rather than treating; the prevailing wind dictates where tomorrow's problem arrives from.

What pulls a boundary in

Ground too thin for the tier available. A berth too far away to reach the far corner and still work it. Water somebody else already has an obligation over. A stretch where the honest answer is that treatment would not hold against the exchange rate of the tide.

What pushes it out

An intake approach just outside the obvious perimeter. A nursery ground that feeds the fishery inside it. The next bay upwind, which is where the bloom you will be treating in a fortnight is currently forming.

The season

Contracts follow the calendar the water keeps.

Coastal damage is not evenly distributed through a year. It arrives in a window, and the window is usually shorter than the procurement cycle written around it.

In 2025 the Chesapeake ran 60 sustained days of hypoxia, against a long-term span of 78 to 116 days. Its daily maximum hypoxic volume reached 10.1 cubic kilometres, close to the median of 10.7. That is what a season looks like measured properly: variable, bounded, and nothing like a year.

So capacity is held for the window and released afterwards. A hull sitting on your account through a quiet February is a hull you are paying for twice — once in the rate, and again in the credibility of the next renewal.

The people

A programme is a crew list before it is a technology.

Five roles, and the fifth one does not work for us.

On the hull: a master and deck crew who hold the qualifications for that flag and that water. A treatment operator who runs the gas plant, the generation stage and the oxidant ceiling. A water-quality technician who reads the column before the pass and again after it, at depth, because a surface reading either side of a treatment proves very little.

Ashore: an analyst who decides where hulls go tomorrow, working from telemetry, imagery and forecast risk rather than from yesterday's complaint.

And outside: the local scientific institution engaged for the duration, holding the same live feeds the duty crew reads, free to bring instruments of its own. That role is written into the programme rather than offered as reassurance, and it is the one we would keep if we had to give up the other four.

Consumables

Gas is inside the subscription because gas logistics is where these programmes fail.

Oxygen and ozone are not exotic. Getting industrial volumes of them onto a hull, in the right place, through a season, on a coastline where the nearest plant may be several hundred kilometres away, is the unglamorous problem that decides whether the fleet works or waits.

At asset scale a vessel replenishes from shore. At national scale the answer is a dedicated gas barge working alongside, and an industrial gas partner inside the joint venture rather than at the end of a purchase order. That pairing is what the Super SeaBreather configuration is.

Either way it sits on our side of the boundary. You are not running a gas contract, and you are not the one explaining to a minister why the vessel is alongside instead of working.

Boundaries of the offer

Four things a programme does not include.

Stated here rather than discovered in month three.

  • It does not reduce what arrives from your catchment. Nutrients are generated on land and will be cut on land. We hold the water while that argument is legislated and funded.
  • It does not transfer your permitting relationship. The consent under which work happens in your water is yours, and we are the contractor named inside it.
  • It does not sell you equipment. Nothing on these pages is available as a purchase, a lease or a technology transfer, and asking will not change the answer.
  • It does not cool a whole sea. Where a thermal problem is regional rather than local, breaking a cap in one basin buys nothing, and the site read says so before the contract does.

Three about the shape of the thing

Can we buy a SeaBreather instead of a programme?

No. The systems are licensed from Credible Ventures and stay with us, along with the crew, the permits and the liability.

What is purchasable is capacity held in a defined area of water for a defined part of the year. If your board wants an asset on the balance sheet, this is the wrong instrument and we would rather say so early.

Who is actually on the boat?

Does a programme have to run all year?

Rarely. Most coastal exposure occupies a season, and the contract is written to that shape rather than to a fiscal one.
